About the Author
Temple Grandin is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Animals in Translation and Animals Make Us Human, as well as Thinking in Pictures, Humane Livestock Handling, Improving Animal Welfare, and The Autistic Brain. Grandin’s humane livestock facility designs have been adopted all over the world, and she is a consultant on animal welfare to several segments of the fast food industry. Her work has been featured on NPR, 60 Minutes, and The Today Show and in the New York Times and Time and Discover magazines. The story of her life was made into an Emmy Award-winning HBO movie titled Temple Grandin. Grandin is Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University.

Not for the small scale rancher.

This book has a lot of information. It is written very well, and there are a lot of very good illustrations. However, this is not for the small scale cattleman completely. I wish I had known that the illustrated guide to cattle compounds are more for the large scale cattle operation rather than the small scale. We are an extremely small operation. We neither have the room, money or the need for the facilities in the book. If I had 200+ head this would be helpful, but with our single digit herd we just don't have the need for such grand plans.

Livestock Handling

This is an awesome book. It makes me want to write a fan letter to Temple Grandin! I am a new shepherd, and knew nothing about how to handle livestock. This book told me what to do and how to do it, and it is exactly right. Everything she says works just as she says it will. It also contains other amazing information. Compulsory reading for livestock handlers

I have worked with cattle from my youth and am now 71, I have started building new handling facilities. I have also modified existing facilities, all in one month since I purchased this book. Your never to old to open your mind and enjoy knowledge which will improve the well being of animals in your care and help you enjoy your work. Recommend reading for any one working with livestock.
