Sexy twist to the story!

I was addicted to this series and, about 5 pages into the series, I knew there was going to be a very interesting journey for Mia. I was not disappointed. March is everything you think you know, flipped on its head. This book is an incredible twist from the first two books. And just as much fun to read. If you thought this was just going to be one sexy romp, month after month, with just the sexy names changed, it is not. This book shows so much more about Mia and her family. I was blown away by how much this book touched my heart. I won't spoil the surprise, but this book has a very important message about love. And how far one will go, even sacrificing their own happiness, in the name of love. Mia's trip to Chicago in March to be the stand in girlfriend to Anthony Fasano will change Mia. The people she meets, the lovers she helps, even her past all play a role here. It is a wild ride from start to finish, and I am so glad I got to come along for the journey. This is a touching read, one minute you laugh, the next breaks your heart. But the strength in Mia is ever present, and now I know I will follow this character through every month of her struggle to pay off her father's debt. This is a series that you can't predict the ending any more than you can anticipate what Mia we do month to month. This author is anything but predictable, and I love it!

Another Incredible Month

I have a new addiction. I count down the days until the next Audrey Carlan’s Calendar Girl book releases as soon as I am finished with the current one. I am loving the journey that Mia is on. It’s seductive and powerful – captivating. Each month we are introduced to fabulous new characters and I have started to think of each month as being themed. I think that I might label March as ‘acceptance’.

Can I admit that the dirty girl in me was a little excited – just for a moment – that we might be getting some threesome action out of March?! It was okay that we didn’t because the actual story was even better the way Audrey wrote it.

Tony Fasano is one delicious man. Attractive, smart and kind. Loyal. From the outside looking in you would think that Mia’s entire month would be spent earning additional payments. Except there’s so much more to March. It’s a bit heart breaking and painful – I was amazed how Audrey was able to get so much story into such a short novella.

Both Tony and Mia spend March discovering what they truly want. Or more so, who they truly want. It’s an awesome month.

I can’t decide if I’m happy I discovered the Calendar Girl series in January or if I’m cursing myself because I would rather read all 12 months together at the end. Either way it’s an enticing journey that I’m happy to be on. I love everything about this series. I am already anticipating April and I’m curious to see what the author has in store for us then.

Anthony "Tony" Fasano a drop dead sexy Italian god...who happens to bat for the same team Mia does. Tony and Hector (Tonys partner) hire Mia to play as his fake fiancé to get his family (mainly his mother) off his back about finding a woman and settling down. Okay so he's gay and owns a chain of Italian family restaurants, what's the problem? Oh just like a lot of men Tony is a mamas boy, doesn't want to upset Mama, or put "shame" to the family name. Needless to say the only people who know he's gay are Hector, Mia, and the cook.
So much happens in this book. The Fasano family loves Mia and instantly welcomes her into the fold. She becomes close friends with not only Hector and Tony, but also Tonys sister Angie. When a family welcomes you with open arms like Fasano family did it would be hard lying to them. Mia felt awful for deceiving them, but she had to for Tonys sake.
While complying with this lie a lot of things happened. Hector and Mia became ridiculously close. His feelings were hurt because of this lie. The Fasano's loved him like he was another son and knew he was gay, so what's the problem? Angie was the first person to bring up that she knew Hector and Tony were partners and was totally okay with it.
"If there was ever a woman that could make a gay man straight it would be you."
Heck I would take that compliment.
"You know, Mia, it’s so tiring. Always hiding, worrying about who might find out, what it would mean to Mama and the family. How the public might take it. I couldn’t bear the thought of hurting my family and Hector in the process just for my own selfish desires."
I get it, it would be trying. But on another note Mia confides in Hector and Tony about Wes. Since she's been in the Windy City she's been in contact with him, thank god for phones and explicit words. Wes even decided to crash in on the trios St. Patrick's day drinking binge. Which almost lead to Tony pounding in Wes' face.
"Wes, sorry about that. But you know, drunk men, a beautiful woman, people can get handsy. I was just looking out for her."
Thankfully the boys love Mia so much they let Wes stay at there place so she could have an all night sexathon with him. When Wes left it tore her up, or maybe it was the letter he wrote her before he left.
Like the others this trip must come to an end. But before hand Mia stands next to Tony and Hector when they come out to the family. Then again when they come out to the world, or at least all of Chicago. Mama took it a little hard that she wouldn't get grandkids the traditional way, but she loves her son unconditionally. Like every mother the only thing she truly wants for Tony is for him to be happy and he is with Hector. After leaving them her 'see you later' note Mia was off to her next client in need. A pro baseball player in Boston.

Poorly constructed book

The outstanding work by Harry Lawrence is diminished by the the poor construction of the paperback book. No glue on the binding resulted in the pages falling out. Since I could not return the book in the middle of class and await the return of a replacement, the return date expired. Wish I could have read the words inside the book without opening it.

Good read, learned a lot

I enjoyed this, thoroughly. After my 9 week class I was little burnt out as the amount of reading but I learned a lot more than I thought I would. Not sure why some people are mentioning quality, my copy has held up great. Like I stated I learned a lot- meaning I wouldn't know if everything is factually correct- but everything made sense, was explained well, and was supported very well by my class's summaries. I didn't feel a 'political slant', any more than I expected from a textbook primarily rooted in the government's interaction over the last 100 years.

Had to use this book for a class. I didn't think it was as biased as some others reviewed it to be, but there were times that you could tell it would swing one way or the other. Overall it was informative, and I learned alot.

Tracing "Usher"

Dennis R. Perry and Carl H. Sederholm attempt to trace the contributions of Edgar Allan Poe to major works of horror and Gothic in America, arguing that Poe is not merely an influence on all American Gothic after him, but that he "is the dominant ghost haunting modern American horror" (18). Perry and Sederholm suggest this by focusing on Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher," and its direct influence on several texts, which include Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper," James's The Turn of the Screw, Lovecraft's fiction, Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, Bloch's Psycho, Levin's Rosemary's Baby, and King's The Shining.
Perry and Sederholm's preface and first chapter explain the purpose of their study and their reasoning behind focusing on Poe's "House of Usher." They claim that Poe studies have largely overlooked Poe's influence on Gothic and horror writers and that because of Poe's varied styles and broad influence on American fiction, "he can easily be marginalized in studies of genres in which he should be acknowledged as a key player" ("Preface" vii). They define Poe's work broadly enough to encompass genres like Gothic and horror, arguing that his work is much more varied than most studies suggest, and they focus on "House of Usher" to narrow the scope of their study, positing that this story is Poe's masterpiece and serves as an appropriate model for studying elements of Gothic and horror.
Poe's Gothic traditions are well noted in the first chapter, as Perry and Sederholm claim that Poe's "House of Usher" is the "culmination of the Gothic literary tradition," noting Ann Radcliffe and Horace Walpole as the forerunners of genre (8). Defining the characteristics of the genre and hinting at how it overlaps with genres like horror or ghost stories gives the book a solid foundation for tracking the tradition, its culmination in Poe, and then Poe's continuous "haunting" influence on the American Gothic.
Though Perry and Sederholm are thorough in examining the "Usher Formula" and the elements that characterize it, the explanation may be difficult to grasp for someone unfamiliar with a wide scope of American literature and the criticism that they refer to (like Freud and Todorov). Nevertheless, this explanation serves as a good context as the following chapters mark the influence of Poe throughout the Gothic and horror traditions in American literature and popular culture. As the book goes on, some prior knowledge of the texts in discussion would definitely aid in understanding the points of influence that Perry and Sederholm examine as the texts are discussed in detail with only occasional summary provided.
What makes this book interesting and difficult at the same time is the number of goals that Perry and Sederholm set out to accomplish. Primarily, they examine Poe's place in the literary conventions of Gothic and horror and trace the influence of "House of Usher." They also use this conversation to promote an understanding of what makes Poe's "House of Usher" so significant in culture (as they explain its significance in the world of literary criticism). Other goals include accounting "specifically for the overlooked significance of 'The Fall of the House of Usher'" and contributing "to the ongoing recent discussion of the aesthetics and cultural significance of Gothic literature and its branches: terror, horror, romance, and the weird tale" (4, 11). Though all of these goals are accomplished to some degree, the scope of the study seems too broad, even though Perry and Sederholm attempt to narrow it significantly by focusing on American texts and the influence of only one of Poe's tales.

Rearranging your alphabet soup

This is one of the most delightful books that brightens my bookshelves. Ursus Wehrli has put onto silent pages all the things he has taken apart and then put into neat and orderly arrangements, leaving out not the smallest piece. I say they are silent pages because there is no text to read about what the artist has done. The photographs are bright, crisp and wondrous to ponder and humorous enough that laughter can't be helped. This is a book to go through again and again and find something that was missed the last time.

Out of all the photos in the book, the evergreen branch is my favorite.

Highly recommended art book that anyone can enjoy.

As a girl who separates her candy into piles by color, then puts them in alphabetical order, then has to eat them down evenly...well this book is like porn for my OCD. In particular I loved pictures where the items were separated by color into neat lines. So good.

Don't fear your auto!

Auto transmissions are a mystery to most of us, even those who are performance enthusiasts. Ron's book is an excellent introduction into the inner workings of the TH350. More importantly though, the book gives great step-by-step info on rebuilding your 350 yourself. It's not as hard as you would think! The book is full of informative photos and diagrams and also contains info regarding high-performance modifications. If your thinking about doing your own TH350 rebuild, forget GM manuals. This is the only book you'll need.

This is the 1. step by step manual I read that REALLY works

I can only second what the first reader review of this book sais. I was amazed how the author takes you by the hand and how he does not forget to tell you even about the smallest details you might forget about! Tackling a th350 rebuild is something really advanced, even for a quite experienced gearhead but with this book you will be on the safe side! Good Luck!

Great book, especially for a novice

Before starting my current restoration project, I knew absolutely nothing about working on cars - much less working on an automatic transmission. I purchased this book, built up my courage, and decided to attempt to rebuild my transmission completely on my own. With the help of the numerous pictures and detailed instructions, I had no problem doing my own transmission work. The author gives you a basic understanding of how a transmission works, details how to tear down the transmission, what to look for when inspecting the parts for ware, and how to put everything back together again. With this book, even a beginner can rebuild a transmission.
